Everything Is Chlorine Bleach-Free. We Mean Everything.

Everything Is Chlorine Bleach-Free. We Mean Everything.

Most of us do not think too deeply about toilet paper.

You notice when you are running low, add it to the shopping list, maybe compare the number of rolls in a pack, and then move on with your day. Tissues and paper towels are much the same. They are everyday basics, so familiar that we rarely stop to question them.

And because we have grown up seeing them a certain way, bright white paper products just feel normal. White has quietly become shorthand for clean, soft, and fresh.

But once you start paying more attention to the products you bring into your home, especially the ones you use every single day, you begin asking questions you may never have asked before.

Why is toilet paper so white? Why are tissues so white? Why do paper towels need to look so pristine when half their job is wiping benches, catching spills, and dealing with whatever happened in the kitchen this time?

And the bigger question: does any of it actually need to be white?

At Eco Cheeks, we do not think so. Our toilet paper, tissues, and paper towels are made without chlorine bleach or whitening agents.

And when we say everything is chlorine bleach-free, we actually mean the whole lot: the toilet paper, the tissues, the paper towels, the cartons, the tissue boxes, the thank-you cards and even the cardboard core inside the toilet roll.

Yes, even that little guy.

Is Toilet Paper Really Bleached?

Yes, many conventional toilet papers are whitened during production. Paper made from natural plant fibres is not usually that crisp, bright white colour straight away, so bleaching or whitening processes are often used to create the white paper products most of us are used to seeing.

That does not mean every brand uses the exact same process, but it does mean the bright white colour we often associate with "clean" may come from extra processing.

It is also worth knowing that some paper products described as "elemental chlorine-free" are not necessarily chlorine-free altogether. CHOICE explains that elemental chlorine-free means chlorine gas is not used, but chlorine dioxide may still be used in the bleaching process.

Whitening does not make toilet paper better at being toilet paper. It changes the look. And for us, that is not enough of a reason.

If this has you wondering why so many of us associate bright white toilet paper with being cleaner, we explore that idea further in Does White Toilet Paper Really Mean Cleaner?

Why Choose Chlorine Bleach-Free Toilet Paper, Tissues and Paper Towels?

Choosing chlorine bleach-free paper products is one way to reduce unnecessary chemicals in everyday household essentials. These are products you use constantly, so it makes sense to question what they are made from and how they are processed.

Toilet paper is not a once-in-a-while product. Tissues are not occasional if you have kids, allergies, hay fever, winter sniffles, or a handbag that somehow collects emergency everything. Paper towels are used around benches, hands, food prep, and kitchen mess.

These products are part of daily life.

Another reason we avoid chlorine bleach is that chlorine bleaching of paper pulp has been associated with dioxins, a group of highly toxic compounds that can be created as unwanted by-products during certain industrial processes. For us, it comes back to a simple question: if a paper product can be soft, strong, and effective without being chemically whitened, why add that extra process at all?

What Does Eco Cheeks Mean by Everything Is Bleach-Free?

When Eco Cheeks says everything is bleach-free, we are not only talking about the paper you use. We are talking about the pieces around it too.

Our toilet paper is chlorine bleach-free. Our tissues are chlorine bleach-free. Our paper towels are chlorine bleach-free.

But our cartons are chlorine bleach-free too. So are our tissue boxes, our thank-you cards, and our toilet paper cores.

That last one is the detail people usually do not expect, because honestly, who spends time thinking about the cardboard tube in the middle of a toilet roll?

Apparently, we do.

Because the core is still part of the product. It still has to be made, and it still ends up somewhere once you are finished with it. So we asked the same question we ask about everything else.

Does it need to be bleached?

No.

Eco Cheeks is all about creating healthier products for people and the planet, which means looking closely at what goes into our products, what gets left out, and which processes are actually necessary.

We are obsessed with reducing toxins and eliminating unnecessary chemicals wherever we can, especially in products people use every day.

You can read more about why we make the choices we do on our Our Purpose page.

Can Toilet Roll Cores Go in Compost or Worm Farms?

Yes, cardboard toilet roll cores can be ripped up and added to compost or worm farms, provided they are suitable for your system.

That is one reason we love that even our Eco Cheeks toilet paper cores are chlorine-bleach-free. If you have a compost or worm farm at home, you can tear up the core and pop it in.

No fancy sustainability ritual required. Just rip it up, add it in, and let your little worms get on with things.

Your worms do not need their cardboard served bright white.

And honestly, neither do we.

Why Does Bleach-Free Packaging Matter?

Because the packaging is part of the story.

It would feel a little odd for us to say we care deeply about reducing unnecessary chemicals in our toilet paper, tissues, and paper towels, then wrap and ship those products in materials that do not follow the same thinking.

So we carry the bleach-free philosophy through the whole Eco Cheeks experience. The carton your order arrives in matters. The tissue box matters. The thank-you card tucked inside matters.

Not because any one of those things is the entire solution on its own, but because lots of small choices add up. If something does not need chlorine bleach or whitening agents to do its job, we would rather leave them out.

Does Bleach-Free Mean Less Clean?

No. Bleach-free does not mean less clean. A product can be naturally beige and still be clean, soft, and effective.

Bleach-free simply means we have not used chlorine bleach or whitening agents to make it look artificially white. That is why Eco Cheeks products have a more natural colour. We are not trying to hide it.

Because once you get used to using unbleached paper products, the super white stuff starts to look a little strange.

You begin to wonder why it needed to look that white in the first place.

Is Bleach-Free the Same as Toxic-Free?

Not exactly, but it is part of the same bigger idea.

For Eco Cheeks, being toxic-free means looking at the everyday products people use constantly and asking what we can remove without compromising performance. Chlorine bleach and whitening agents are part of that conversation.

So are unnecessary fragrances, dyes, and extras that do not need to be in products used against your skin, around your home, or near your food.

That matters across our range. Our tissues, for example, are designed without unnecessary fragrances, dyes, lotions or harsh processing, which is especially important for products that regularly touch delicate skin.

And in the kitchen, our bleach-free bamboo paper towels are useful for far more than spills. From food prep to helping keep produce fresh, you can explore more ideas in Bamboo Paper Towels: 5 Kitchen Uses Beyond Cleaning.

We are not interested in making everyday products more complicated. We are interested in making them simpler, gentler, and more considered.

Sometimes the healthier choice is not about adding something impressive. Sometimes it is about leaving unnecessary things out.
